We are currently seeking a full-time Substance Abuse Counselor 4 for New River CTC. Hours are 5am until 230pm daily with occasional weekend work as directed.

New River CTC , a member of Acadia Healthcare's Comprehensive Treatment Centers, is a part of the leader in medication assisted treatment for individuals struggling with an opioid addiction. With full-circle care that includes a blend of therapies and the use of safe and effective medications, we are prepared to treat the entire problem, not just a piece of it.

Position Characteristics

The Counselor 4 is a counseling professional who provides treatment and support to assist patients in their recovery from opiate addiction in a medication assisted treatment setting.  Assists with modifying problem behaviors via treatment planning; may also provide counseling services to families of patient’s through an outpatient setting. Provide supervision to certified team members, as well as direction and assistance to Clinical Supervisor in consistent quality improvement of clinical services.

  • Conducts individual counseling sessions, as scheduled and documents as required;
  • Conducts group and/or family sessions, as scheduled and document as required;
  • May co-facilitate assigned group or family sessions;
  • Responsible for initial assessments, as well as follow up assessment for patients.
  • Prepares individual treatment plan for each assigned patient;
  • Ensures all documentation regarding patient care, treatment and incidents are completed timely and in a clear, concise manner;
  • May act as a liaison between referral sources and patient;
  • Provides crisis intervention to patients, as needed;
  • May plan for aftercare for assigned patient’s;
  • May act as a liaison with insurance carriers, as requested;
  • May provide case management duties for patient’s, ensuring individualized quality care.
  • Evaluates patient’s needs and determines if referrals to other programs or facilities is needed;
  • May assist in the training of new clinical staff and interns;
  • May serve as lead for the team coordinating the activities of other clinical or direct patient care personnel, providing direction and clinical guidance; and,
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Master's degree in social or health services field with experience in counseling field; degree must be from an accredited college or university
  • Previous experience providing guidance and direction to others


  • LPC, LCSW or other licensure denoting the candidate as a Virginia LMHP.  Certification to provide care in substance abuse specific area is preferred. CSAC or other recognized in Virginia.
