Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Members of the Nursing Discipline are professional staff members who under the provisions of the Professional Staff Bylaws and as delineated by clinical privileges demonstrates a distinct knowledge of nursing care and practices in a comprehensive inpatient alcohol and drug treatment program.

Members of the Nursing Discipline demonstrate distinct knowledge of alcohol and drug treatment modalities and methodologies for the provision of efficient and productive nursing care, treatment and program services. Orientation and staff development education will be provided.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  1. Plans, assigns, supervises, evaluates and provides on each assigned shift for the efficient provision of nursing program services as delineated by the Professional Staff Bylaws and clinical privileges;
  2. Attends weekly treatment plans update meetings (as assigned) in the absence of the Director of Nursing or designee, reports patients progress and achievement of nursing treatment plan goals and expected outcomes, reports on patients individual progress, significant behaviors, overall participation in treatment activities and concurrent discharge planning;
  3. Provided consultation and makes recommendations to the treatment team in relation to the patients treatment progress, identified nursing and referral needs.
  4. Collaborates with the Medical Discipline in relation to the medical status and identified medical/nursing needs of individual patients.
  5. Confers with the Psychology Discipline in relation to the administration and results of patient psychological testing and evaluation;
  6. Confers with the Medical Discipline and makes arrangements for patient referral to medical/support services, not provided by the Center;
  7. Confers with the medical/support referral sources for the efficient provision of treatment and program services;
  8. Received verbal and written physician orders, carries out promptly and correctly all physician orders receives for the medications and medical treatment;
  9. Confers with family members and significant others and documents these individual contacts.
  10. Conducts intervention sessions with patients identified as potential A.M.A. or A.S.A. discharge risks;
  11. Receives patients for admission and completes nursing admission assessment within six (6) hours of patient admission;
  12. Provides patients with a thorough orientation to the program and nursing services, upon admission and after detox.
  13. Develops patient treatment plans as based on admissions assessment data, within six (6) hours of patient admission;
  14. Documents treatment plan; objective problem statements, treatment interventions and measurable goals/ expected outcomes;
  15. Updates patient treatment plans as based on patients reassessed clinical needs and identified medical/nursing problems;
  16. Documents chronological progress notes, as required, in patients medical record relating to patient’s clinical course of treatment, significant behaviors and response to nursing interventions;
  17. Documents treatment plan reviews and updates in progress notes of patients medical record, at a minimum of once per assigned shift;
  18. Documents patient discharge planning in patients medical record, upon patients discharge;
  19. Administers medications per policy and procedure, as well as adhering to detox protocol and guidelines in place.
  20. It is okay to listen to a patient, but with any behavioral concerns/issues, please refer them to their individual counselor assigned.
