Job Description

  1. Skill in using nursing procedures and equipment; in providing emergency care and humane resident restraining applications; in communicating effectively orally and in written; in therapeutic counseling techniques.

  2. Ability to use good judgment in responding to resident emergencies and in solving problems, and to set a good example for all staff members.

  3. Assesses resident’s physical needs.

  4. Act as Licensed Independent Practitioner (L.I.P.) in Seclusion and Restraint incidents, and implements and complies with ESI policy and procedure.

  5. Admits, discharges, and transfers residents based on physician orders.

  6. Ensures that residents and families are oriented to the Center and the unit.

  7. Collaborates with members of other disciplines in a professional manner.

  8. Teaches residents and families appropriately.

  9. Assists with procedures and physical exams.

  10. Administers medications appropriately.

  11. Observes resident behavior for changes, in order to intervene appropriately, guide nonprofessional nursing staff, communicate changes to appropriate staff, and record changes.

  12. Supervises nonprofessional nursing staff in providing quality nursing care.

  13. Reviews medical records, checks physician orders, and records these orders.

  14. Participates in performance appraisal.

  15. Attends unit staff meetings.

  16. Participates in committee activities are required.

  17. Performs other duties as may be assigned.
