The nurse will be responsible for facilitating the inpatient transfer for treatment or outpatient admission and will coordinate and delegate nursing responsibilities to other members of the ECT nursing staff in order to enhance the admission and recovery aspects of the patient's care.

In order to complete the treatment process, the nurse will communicate pertinent medial or psychiatric information directly to the treatment and/or recovery room nurse.

Generally, the nurse is responsible for a large volume of patients: both pre-treatment and post-recovery status are handled simultaneously.


  • Knowledge and Skills of appropriate nursing assessment, diagnoses, and interventions with patients.
  • Ability to accurately administer medication and monitor side-effects
  • Proficiency in intravenous therapy.
  • Ability to safely implement treatment procedures and protocols.
  • Ability to develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining appropriate medical record documentation.
  • Ability to collaborate with physicians, nursing personnel and other treatment team members to develop and implement ECT program goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of indications for electroconvulsive therapy and related policies and procedures for treatment.
  • Knowledge of PACU and ECT Standards of Care, preferred.
  • Ability to direct subordinates in the performance of their duties.


  • Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.


  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing required.
  • One or more years’ Registered Nurse experience in psychiatric setting.
  • PACU and/or ECT experience, preferred.


  • Current RN license as required by state.
  • BLS required (training available upon hire)
  • ACLS required (training available upon hire)
  • CPI, de-escalation and restraint certification required (training available upon hire)
  • First aid may be required based on state or facility requirements.
