Job Description

OVERVIEW OF POSITION:

The Nursing Assistant (NA) is a vital and professional member of the nursing department. The NA will have excellent communication, documentation and interpersonal skills. The NA will be patient centered and customer service oriented. The NA will provide culturally sensitive care. The NA will be a team member who will work across various departments including nursing, medical providers, pharmacy, integrative services, clinical and psychology.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Completes patient admission process.
  • Conducts UDS test as requested.
  • Performs gown searches at the direction of nursing staff
  • Enforces dress code
  • Obtains vital signs, height and weight and document.
  • Responsible for confidential records filing each shift.
  • Carry radio at all times and respond in a timely manner.
  • Informs supervisor or senior staff of issues to be documented in the Shift Report.
  • Conduct shift report with oncoming NA.
  • Identifies AMA crisis and immediately notifies the more senior staff.
  • Alerts and notifies staff and supervisors immediately for incidents that need to be reported. Fills out incident reports as appropriate.
  • Takes patients to the evacuation site, takes attendance, and performs room check for fire drills.
  • Schedules outside appointments and transportation.
  • Manages daily discharges, lab requests, outside appointment and leave of absences, document on Brain Board and the Master Brain Board.
  • Updates the nursing report
  • Updates the Grease Sheet
  • Observes and reports pain
  • Assists with diagnostic tests including obtaining specimens
  • Recognizing and reporting abnormal patient or resident physical, psychological or mental changes to supervisor
  • Assisting in admitting, transferring, or discharging patients or residents as directed by lodge or DFH nurse or nurse manager.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment.
  • Proven ability to perform multiple duties and priorities.
  • Proven understanding of the emergency procedures.
  • Proven to be emotionally stable.
  • Proven ability to cope with rapidly changing and emotional challenged environment.
  • Demonstrates ability to deal with a diverse population.
  • Ability to communicate clearly (both verbally and in writing).
  • Must be able to communicate clearly via 2-way radio.
  • Demonstrates a general understanding of all the facility’s policies and procedures including, but not limited to, those in the areas of confidentiality, infection control, patient rights, and safety.
  • Demonstrates the ability to interact with patients in a mature and empathetic manner and present a positive role model.
  • Provide 1:1 coverage or extra supervision to high risk patients, if required.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Behavioral Health or Substance Treatment experience preferred.
  • Must possess excellent critical thinking, communication and leadership skills. 
  • At least 2 years experience in similar position in hospital, inpatient behavioral health or psychiatric facility, preferred.
  • Must possess excellent critical thinking, communication and leadership skills. 
  • FBI Fingerprint Clearance required.
