Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Administer medication as ordered by the Medical Director and to maintain accurate accounting of all medication received (from supplier) and dispensed (to the patient).
  • Prepares and administers medications and treatments with knowledge of purpose and adverse effects of nursing care provided.
  • Completes all documentation for observation, planning, and evaluation of care provided to patients, including orders by physicians.
  • Functions in monitoring capacity as assigned for completion of patient’s care, employee guidance and discipline.
  • Maintains open lines of communication between nursing shifts, as well as other departments, supervisor, physicians, and families of patients.
  • Acts on patient’s behalf to assure patient rights and to prevent patient abuse.
  • Acts on first aid knowledge in emergencies.
  • Is aware of safety issues, accomplishing responsibilities in a safe manner, re-enforces good safety practices displayed by other staff members.
  • Is able to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Works as a team member.
  • Is able to perform the following physical activities: Kneeling, Stooping, Standing, Reaching, Pulling/pushing, Walking, Grasping, moving fingers, Hearing, Talking, Sitting, Repetitive motions.
  • The Nurse will be responsible for urine collection and processing, reading test results as ordered by Program Physicians and the completion of all forms involved in these procedures.
  • Complete nursing education lectures
  • Giving medication as prescribed by a physician
  • Taking vital signs, such as blood pressure, temperature, and weight
  • Basic wound care including cleaning and bandaging injured areas
  • Giving injections of medication
  • Immunizations
  • Taking medical histories
  • Entering information into computer systems
  • Assessing patients’ reactions to medications
  • Assessing patients' mental health
  •      Providing emotional support
