Job Description

  1. Minimum age 21.

  2. Graduate of an Accredited School of Practical Nursing.

  3. Current licensure in State of Arkansas.

  4. One (1) year experience in nursing with one additional year of experience in psychiatric nursing preferred.

  5. Knowledge of psychiatric/clinical nursing principles and applications; also Center policy and procedure to include health, safety, and infection control.

  6. Skill in using nursing procedures and equipment; in providing emergency care and humane resident restraining applications; in communicating effectively orally and in written; in therapeutic counseling techniques.

  7. Ability to use good judgment in responding to resident emergencies and in solving problems, and to set a good example for all staff members.

  8. Ability to be flexible, positive and cooperative in dealing with all levels of staff, residents, visitors, and families.

  9. Ability to display appropriate emotional expression to fit the situation and to show sound physical and psychological health.

  10. Knowledge of child/adolescent growth and development and an understanding of the range or treatment provided by the center.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  1. Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of Nursing Service’s philosophy, objectives, standards, policies, and procedures.

  2. Documents nursing intervention and resident response to progress notes.

  3. Provides a safe, therapeutic environment that protects resident’s rights.

  4. Provides general nursing care as required.

  5. Develops a therapeutic relationship with assigned residents.

  6. Sets limits on resident’s behavior.

  7. Encourages independent behavior.

  8. Serves as a role model for residents.

  9. Serves as a role model for peers.

  10. Establishes contact with the resident’s physician and psychotherapist in order to assist in planning the resident’s care.

  11. Intervenes to decrease panic in disturbed residents.

  12. Admits, discharges, and transfers residents based on physician orders.

  13. Ensures that residents and families are oriented to the Center and the unit.

  14. Collaborates with members of other disciplines in a professional manner.

  15. Teaches residents and families appropriately.

  16. Incorporates cost containment into nursing plans.

  17. Assists with procedures and physical exams.

  18. Administers medications appropriately.

  19. Observes resident behavior for changes in order to intervene appropriately, guide nonprofessional nursing staff, communicate changes to appropriate staff, and record change.

  20. Reviews medical records, checks physician orders, and records these orders.

  21. Participates in staff development.

  22. Participates in committee activities as required.

  23. Performs other duties as may be assigned.
