Job Description

Actively participates in the planning, evaluation and revision of the infection control activities

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

A.    Develops, revises and reviews all policies and procedures for identifying, reporting, controlling known or suspected infections and reducing the risk of infection.

B.     Participates in the departmental development of the Quality Plan and works to meet identified goals.

C.    Actively participates as a member of the Performance Improvement Committee.

D.    Conducts surveillance utilizing benchmarks.

E.     Performs employee health screens

Develops, provides, and maintains on-going educational program which address infection control topics and employee health.

 

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

A.    Develops, provides and maintains an on-going educational program which addresses current educational needs identified through assessment processes.

B.     Ensures identified customers are educated on infection control issues while serving as a resource on the latest information available to customers.

C.    Provides Infection Control part of the general orientation process and provides in-services to staff and other identified customers as requested.

D.    Maintains patient confidentiality and rights of patients

 

Provides for a safe therapeutic, healthy environment

 

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

A.    Conducts monthly IC training

B.     Communicates with all pertinent individuals with high risk situations.

C.    Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development. Communicates with patients in a manner sensitive to their age/disability/cultural needs. Identifies safety needs.

D.    Utilizes CDC criteria in the identification of Nosocomial infections

E.     Supervises nursing activities in absence of DON after hours

F.     Acts as community liaison to keep facility abreast of community issues

G.    Coordinates with Risk Management/Environmental issues

H.    Enforces IC standards system-wide and monitors employee health status to ensure the employee is physically fit to work

I.       Serves as back up RN position as needed

 Demonstrates behaviors that reflect a commitment to the overall welfare of the facility and community in maintaining internal, external, governing and credentialing bodies.PERFORMANCE STANDARDSA.    Collaborates with the Occupational Health Clinic when employee exposures are suspected.

B.   Takes action to reduce infections in

       collaboration   

       with pertinent department.

C. Participates in community activities directed at        decreasing/addressing outbreaks or trends

D. Explores professional

      journals/websites as related to the job. Keeps 

     current on all IC trends

E. Maintains active membership with the

     Association of Infection Control Practitioners  

     (APIC)

 Performs other duties as required PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

A.    Acts as reference person for all staff and patients

B.     Demonstrates supervisory/leadership abilities

C.    Maintains universal/standard precautions

D.    Avoid casual conversation of patient status, maintains confidentiality/knowledge of HIPAA
