Job Description


  • Graduation from an NLN approved nursing school
  • Considerable knowledge/experience in nursing philosophy, policy, practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of chemically dependent/dual diagnosis treatment and rehabilitation
  • CPR certification within 30 days of hire
  • Crisis Management within 30 days of hire
  • Licensed to practice as a RN in the state of North Carolina
  • Knowledge of chemical dependency and dual diagnosis treatment and rehabilitation.
  • Ability to work with male and female, adult (18-over) substance abuse/dually diagnosed population.

  • Assumes primary responsibility for up to eight (8) patients                                                                                 
  • Provides HR Manager with updated RN and CPR licenses                                                                                     
  • Accurately processes physician orders                                                                          
  • Provides nursing care according to physician orders                                                                              
  • Provides nursing care in conformance with established standards and nursing policies                                                                        
  • Performs accurate initial nursing assessment                                                                            
  • Performs accurate ongoing nursing assessment                                                                        
  • Notifies physician of significant changes in the patient                                                                          
  • Documents complete nursing progress notes                                                                            
  • Educates patient on medical tests, procedures, medication, and other items as appropriate                                                                            
  • Explains planned therapy and treatment to the patient                                                                        
  • Accurately performs Venipuncture as required                                                                         
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and practices universal precautions                                                                                    
  • Utilizes correct hand-washing techniques                                                                                   
  • Accurately administers medications in all forms (oral, respiratory, injections, etc).                                                                        
  • Maintains accurate inventory of controlled substances                                                                         
  • Correctly performs dressing changes as needed                                                                                     
  • Provides direction and leadership in patient care to assigned personnel                                                                        
  • Responds therapeutically to inappropriate patient behaviors                                                                             
  • Responsible for monitoring and supervising LPNs as required, including signing off LPN orders each shift                                                                                    
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures governing the control of infections and communicable diseases                                                                         
  • Coordinates with medical staff about reportable diseases                                                                                  
  • Develop a system for identifying, reporting, investigating and controlling infections and communicable diseases of patients and personnel                                                                                   
  • Participates in hospital orientation program and in-service programs to educate new staff on infection control program                                                                                     

Essential Job Functions & Duties: 

  • Maintains patient specific notebook of communicable diseases\eportable diseases                                                                            
  • Reports quarterly to the leadership team                                                                                   
  • Administers oxygen per facility policy                                                                           
  • Report off and notify charge nurse before leaving the treatment center                                                                        
  • Update and maintain patient teaching sheet                                                                              
  • Update and maintain medication reconciliation sheet                                                                           
  • Complete MD contact follow up form if MD is called                                                                             
  • Complete and maintain infection control log                                                                             
  • Performs tests as ordered by medical (glucose, pregnancy, UDS)                                                                                    
  • Read and sign communications book daily.                                                                                
  • Verify and distribute daily ADT sheet                                                                            
  • Verify daily discharges with Lead TA                                                                              
  • Prepare discharge orders & corresponding patient paperwork                                                                          
  • Distribute daily discharge list to nursing                                                                       
  • Attend daily flash meeting                                                                                 
  • Prepare all medications and patient discharge forms including prescriptions                                                                            
  • Meet individually with each discharging patient for patient education and hospital release                                                                                     
  • Complete daily level of care changes and update ADT sheet                                                                               
  • Meet with Medical staff periodically throughout the day to review triage Forms and respond accordingly                                                                       
  • Attend daily 3pm staff meeting if available                                                                                 
  • Assist with general nursing tasks as needed
