Director of Clinical Services


Provides program management and oversight for the Social Services Program.  Provide supervision to the Social Workers with an emphasis on meeting clinical benchmarks for quality care and productivity (psycho-social assessments, groups, and discharge planning), ensuring proper care is being provided in accordance with regulations, developing and providing ongoing clinical staff development and program planning. Collaboration with other departments as necessary.  This position may also be required to provide direct service to patients in the hospital.

  • Serve as a member of the Management Team and on committees as assigned.
  • Serve as a leader to the clinical teams by providing support, guidance and information.
  • Administrator on Call as required.
  • Maintain current knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements and share with staff to ensure their understanding of and adherence to these requirements.
  • Ensure the program operates in compliance with the laws and regulations of federal, state and local agencies, the standards, rules and regulations of various accrediting and approval agencies, including Joint Commission and according to current narrative/schedule, admission/discharge criteria and all other applicable policies, procedures and plans.
  • Integrate program with nursing functions, assuring efficient and effective operations.
  • On a daily basis monitor units and program functioning through attendance at staffing and management by walking around.
  • Provide reports as required to administration and external funding and regulatory entities.
  • Oversee unit coordinator to ensure the following:
  • Assure that psychosocial assessment, individual, family and group therapy are provided in accordance with clinical guidelines and modalities recognized and accepted by the behavioral health field.
  • Drive process with clinical therapists of creating and following an individualized treatment plan per patient.
  • Measure patient involvement in the treatment and discharge planning processes.
  • Work with nursing, clinical and physician staff to determine when specialized assessments are needed for patients.
  • Oversee clinical documentation of therapy and assessment services to ensure they meet all standar
  • Actively participate in strategic planning and budget development.
  • In conjunction with the CEO, formulate flexible staffing plan for clinical programs.
  • Ensure that the program operates within budgetary staffing and expense guidelines. Assist with proposal writing when necessary and identify potential funding sources when possible.
  • Educate clinical team and staff supervised regarding their operating budget and seek input when preparing for new annual budget.
  • Develop new programs as outlined in the Scope of Services and identified in the Strategic Planning Process.
  • Modify existing programs using feedback received from clinical and nursing staff, patients, referral sources and other involved entities to improve service effectiveness, availability and delivery.
  • Research and implement best practice program models.
  • Actively participate in Performance Improvement activities per requirements of accreditation, licensure, funding and administration.
  • Oversee data collection, analysis, and quality management activities related to performance improvement for youth programs.
  • Other Duties As Assigned.

Job Requirements

  • LCSW Required.
  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree in a Behavioral Health discipline or related field, and five years program management experience working with clinical multidisciplinary teams preferred. 
  • Experience should include working with adult, child and adolescent behavioral health and chemical dependency populations, and experience in acute care settings.
  • Experience should also include utilization review and care coordination.  Knowledge of state and accreditation requirements desired. 
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.  Equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable.
