Your Job as a Director of Admissions:

This position will manage the conduct of the Assessment and referral function of the hospital. Provides leadership, guidance, and supervision to the staff conducting admission clinical assessments and referral services. Provide supervision, leadership, and guidance to the Admission and Referral and Nursing staff responsible for completing the assessment and admission process.

Your Responsibilities as a Director of Admissions:

  • Provide supervision, leadership, and guidance to the Admission and Referral and Nursing staff responsible for completing the assessment and admission process.
  • Assessment and Referral quality improvement activities including reporting to the Quality Improvement Committee quarterly.
  • Maintains understanding of accreditation and licensure standards relating to the Assessment and Referral Department.
  • Complete the Intake Report and Daily Admissions. Discuss the reports at the Flash Meeting (Monday-Friday).
  • Prepare and revise Assessment and Referral policies and procedures as needed.
  • Maintain an adequate understanding of the involuntary and voluntary admission criteria, process, and related laws.
  • Complete clinical assessments for individuals presenting to the hospital. Use clinical judgment to determine if the individual meets criteria for the services provided.
  • Complete admission documentation and explain patient rights to the patient, parent, legal guardian, and/or family members. Forward appropriate admission documentation to Utilization Review and the Business Office in a timely fashion.
  • When appropriate, refer the individual to an alternate level of care based on the needs and the wishes of the person.
  • Complete all related admission documentation, insurance verification, and pre-certification when appropriate.
  • Effectively communicate with the physician to give a verbal report on the patient’s condition and to receive admission orders and/or instructions.
  • Work collaboratively with law enforcement and the judicial system to ensure that the patient receives the care needed.
  • Provide the patient, family members, referral sources, significant others with assessment and voluntary/involuntary admission information.
  • Responsible for maintaining department budget and participates in budget planning for facility.

Your Skills and

Job Requirements

as a Director of Admissions:

  • Fully licensed LPC, LMSW/LCSW or RN with Bachelor’s degree required. (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration or related field.
  • 2-4 years relevant experience in admissions, telephone sales or intake, or other healthcare administration functions.
  • Experience managing a team.
  • Knowledge of sales processes, techniques and tools.
  • Knowledge of financial principles and insurance reimbursement practices.
  • Experience with (or other CRM application) and Concur
