Chief Nursing Officer

Vermilion Behavioral Health Systems provides leading treatment for mental health disorders and substance abuse for both adolescents and adults.

Position Summary:

This position is actively involved, at the executive level, in the leadership of the organization.  Organizing and administering areas of Patient Care Services to attain the hospital's objectives established by the Governing Body. Implementing standards of nursing practice reviewing and revising as necessary. Performing all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety. Planning and coordinating with the Chief Executive Officer, medical staff, and Department Heads.

  • Serve as a member of the leadership team and on committees as required.
  • Manage the daily operations of nursing services.
  • Ensure nursing services are provided in compliance with the laws and regulations of federal, state and local governmental agencies. Standards are met for accrediting agencies.
  • Integrate nursing functions with clinical and programs, ensuring efficient and effective operations.
  • Provide effective and efficient budget management that ensures the best utilization of resources.
  • Evaluate service needs and staffing requirements to ensure needs of patients are met.
  • Provide effective staff management (hiring, development, training, performance feedback, etc.) that ensures utilization of personnel to best meet the needs of the patients.
  • Develop and implement health care related training that assures the best possible delivery of health related supports and services. Review training at least annually and makes modifications as needed.
  • Develop and maintain documentation systems for continuity of care and record storage that assures compliance with local, state and federal regulations, as well as facility policies and procedures.
  • Monitor unit/floor functioning by making frequent rounds.
  • Intervene in crisis situations and investigate incidents.
  • Develop and implement tools to measure, assess and improve quality of nursing care, treatment and service.
  • Actively participate in strategic planning and budget development.
  • Oversee nursing services documentation to ensure it meets all standards.

Job Requirements


Masters or better in Nursing/Healthcare or related field.




3-5 years: Hospital Leadership Experience

2 years: Previous managerial experience


3-5 years: Previous Acute or Inpatient Rehabilitation hospital experience

3-5 years: Previous psychiatric/behavioral health hospital experience
