Job Description

LEADERSHIP


•       Serve as a member of the Management Team and on committees as assigned. 


•       Serve as the leader to nursing department staff by providing support, guidance and information. 


•       Administrator on Call as assigned.

NURSING SUPERVISION


•       Manage the daily operations of nursing services.


•       Ensure nursing services are provided in compliance with the laws and regulations of federal, state and local governmental agencies and with the standards, rules and regulations of various accrediting and approval agencies, including Joint Commission and CMS.


•       Develop and maintain a staffing schedule that meets minimum staffing requirements and supports staffing to patient acuity.


•       Monitor unit functioning through direct observation of patient care and review of medical record documentation.


•       Integrate nursing functions with social services and A&R processes, assuring efficient and effective operations. 


•       Intervene in crisis situations and investigate incidents, events, and/or process variances.

BUDGET MANAGEMENT


•       Actively participate in strategic planning and budget development. 


•       Formulate flexible staffing plan for nursing services in conjunction with facility leadership.


•       Manage the Nursing department within fiscal guidelines. 


•       Educate staff regarding the department operating budget and seek input when preparing for new annual budget. 

ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGEMENT


•       Maintain current knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements and share with staff to ensure their understanding of and adherence to these requirements.


•       Develop and implement goals, policies, procedures and protocols.


•       Develop and implement tools to measure, assess and improve quality of nursing care, treatment and service.


•       Provide reports as assigned by the CEO.


•       Develop and manage contracts with agency staffing services.


•       Oversee nursing services documentation to ensure it meets hospital policy and regulatory standards.


•       Hire, orient, train, supervise and evaluate employees and contract staff. 


•       Provide departmental orientation that is specific to the functions of the department and the job responsibilities of the staff member.

PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT


•       Actively participate in Performance Improvement activities as approved through Quality Council.


•       Manage data collection, analysis, and performance improvement activities related to nursing services. 

COMMUNITY RELATIONS


•       Represent the facility within the community.


•       Provide educational presentations to facility staff and community. 


•       Develop working relationships with referral sources and community agencies in conjunction with facility marketing efforts.
