Overview

Reading Hospital and Acadia Healthcare announce partnership to expand behavioral health services. 

Reading Hospital and Acadia Healthcare announced a joint venture partnership to provide behavioral health services to Berks and the surrounding counties, including the construction of a new 144-bed inpatient facility. This new integrated behavioral health campus will be located on Route 183 in Bern Township on an 82-acre parcel of land, allowing for future growth. Construction will begin early 2018 with an anticipated opening in early 2019. 

The new facility will include inpatient adolescent, adult and geriatric psychiatric care. It will also include partial hospitalization programming, intensive outpatient program services, outpatient counseling, and physician professional services, consultation, and chemical dependency care. Other services are being evaluated for the behavioral health campus. 

Behavioral health affects millions of Americans every year. The 2016 Berks County Community Health Needs Assessment identified a significant need for behavioral healthcare and chemical dependency treatment services in the Berks County region. The study showed that one in five residents of Berks County has been diagnosed with either an anxiety or depressive disorder and two in five had activity limitations due to poor physical or mental health.  Acadia Healthcare offers extensive national experience in behavioral healthcare with a demonstrated standard of excellence in the treatment of behavioral health and addiction disorders. Together, with Reading Hospital's demonstrated high quality care, this collaboration will address a very critical community health need.

Responsibilities

PURPOSE STATEMENT:

The Chief Executive Officer shall serve as the executive officer with day-to-day responsibility for the management and operation of the hospital.  The CEO has primary responsibility for the development, implementation, and achievement of the hospital’s strategic business plan in conjunction with routine operations to include: quality of care, staff development, maintenance of licensure and accreditations, financial performance, and continuous performance improvement.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Collaborates with the governing body in the development of hospital-specific annual operating capital budgets and strategic business plans. Assures that the medical staff is involved and provides input into this process through coordination with the office of the Medical Director.
  2. Manages day-to day operations and staff so that the hospital achieves its objectives in all of the following key performance areas:
    1. effective patient care outcomes
    2. appropriate fiscal management
    3. maintenance of licensure, accreditation and other regulatory criteria
    4. implementation of focused business development processes
    5. medical staff compliance with regulatory and accreditation guidelines
  3. Organizes the day-to-day management and operation of the hospital through departmentalization, delegation and alignment of responsibilities to meet the facility’s patient care and business objectives.
  4. Create and maintain a network of local constituency groups to include government agencies, local businesses, affiliate health providers, and the surrounding community.
  5. Appraises leadership team performance, both of individual members and the team as a whole, assesses competencies, and provides coaching/corrective action as appropriate under the direction of the governing body.
  6. Ensure participation of staff in facility/program wide in-service and continuing education programs, including those specific to the treatment of children, adolescents and families.
  7. Recruit allied health professionals and psychiatrists to increase the scope of service offerings at the hospital.
  8. Effectively manage and direct contract negotiations and contract compliance with the commercial payor community to include rate negotiations and services provided.
  9. Leads development of continuum of care to include comprehensive outpatient services and community based programs.
  10. Serves as the final authority for resolution of staff performance concerns and performance improvement activities as appropriate.
  11. Routinely attends and as appropriate, chairs periodic meetings with the governing body, medical staff, executive management team, and other departments of the hospital.
  12. Abides by all company policies and procedures and operates with the highest personal integrity and professionalism.
  13. Remains current in all national healthcare based initiatives through participation in such organizations as NAPHS and the relevant state based hospital association.

Job Requirements



EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Marketing or a clinical discipline; MBA/MHA preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in senior leadership/CEO role in an acute care environment.
  • Proven ability to lead successful licensure, accreditation, and compliance efforts in a behavioral health facility.
  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of facility administration and clinical operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of financial management and business development processes.
  • Ability to work professionally with sensitive, proprietary data & information while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to interact effectively and professionally with individuals at all levels; both internal and external.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and superior attention to detail.
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously within inflexible time frames.  Ability to adapt to frequent priority changes.
  • Capable of working within established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the organization.
  • English sufficient to provide and receive instructions/directions.
