PURPOSE STATEMENT:

Manage clinical and administrative operations of a nursing unit, within the scope of an LPN or LVN RN license, as defined by the state and Nurse Practice Act.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provides supervision and guidance to the unit staff, and makes decisions affecting the nursing unit.

Assumes responsibility, while developing, maintaining, and upgrading nursing services for the unit.

Participates in recruitment, selection, hiring, orientation, training, and dismissal of nursing personnel.

Assists in controlling nursing services hours and supply costs

Assesses the patient in a systematic and organized manner.

Formulates nursing diagnosis and develops plan of care.

Initiates nursing actions and implements strategies to maximize patient outcomes.

Delegates, supervises, and/or collaborates with other members of the healthcare team in the delivery of safe and effective nursing care.

Evaluates status of interventions and patient goals for the purpose of reassessment, revision of plan of care, and discharge planning.

Seeks continuous learning opportunities.

Education:

Licensure/ Certification/ Registration:

Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.

Current Tennessee license as an RN and BLS Healthcare Provider.

Complexity of Work:

Requires critical thinking, highly organized, decisive judgment, analytical thinking, problem solving, good communication, strong customer service skills, and the ability to work independently or with minimal supervision. Must be able to handle multiple tasks, be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate actions as needed.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Work Experience:     Nursing experience preferred. RN - BC preferred
