POSITION SUMMARY

Shift:Nights 4PM - 2AM

The Nurse Supervisor is a vital member of the Nursing Leadership team. The Nurse Supervisor is responsible for ensuring coordinated delivery of patient care in accordance with the established standards of care, mental and behavioral health practice and hospital and residential policy, goals, and objectives.  The Charge nurse will work across many departments including, Nursing, Medical, Pharmacy, Integrative Services, Clinical, Psychology and Administration in order to offer direction, guidance and education to the unit staff and their patients. This position assists in contributing to the facility’s philosophy, objectives, educational and Quality Improvement efforts, while providing supervision to the nursing staff of. The Nurse Supervisor will work closely with departmental leaders and the Administrator on Call in handling situations through-out the facility that may arise.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing required. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience in behavioral health nursing management is acceptable.

Experience:  A minimum of three (3) years experience in a behavioral health-care facility preferred.

Licensure:  Current RN license to practice by the State Board of Nursing. 

Additional Requirements: Thorough knowledge of JCAHO, OSHA requirements, and state regulatory requirements preferred. CPR certification and successful completion of the hospital’s designated behavioral and physical management training program, including de-escalation.  May be required to work flexible hours.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Evaluates patients/residents milieu activity for shift and reports to AOC/ADON/DON if applicable.
    2. Participates in daily interdisciplinary team meetings and nursing report.
    3. Initiates the petition (Title 36) process, when necessary.
    4. Coordinates assignments/scheduling for staff according to acuity and budgetary guidelines.
    5. Assist in implementing facility policies and procedures.
    6. Manages emergency situations while following appropriate protocols and policies.
    7. Participate in Intake staffing and approvals.
    8. Facilitate morning staff meeting.
    9. Participate in quality assurance programs.
    10. Reviews and gives recommendations on incidents, under the direction and supervision of the Director of Nursing.
    11. Demonstrates an ability to respond and provide direction with increased flexibility during crisis and emergency situations.
    12. Functions effectively as a team leader, using tact, sensitivity, sound judgment and a professional attitude when relating to patients, families, visitors and co-workers at all times.
    13. Addresses patients/residents, visitors, medical providers, and co-workers in a pleasant and respectful manner and maintains favorable working relationships.
    14. Responds to patients with empathy and positive interpersonal skills.
    15. Demonstrates flexibility and assumes added tasks when department needs change.
    16. Is receptive to feedback and acts on feedback given.
    17. Act as the patient’s advocate and assure that patient rights are upheld.
    18. Complies with established measures for infection control, OSHA regulations and risk management.
    19. Identify potential Medical problems and implement appropriate nursing measures as necessary.
    20. Provides nursing oversight for staff assigned to unit as needed.
    21. Evaluates staff for annual performance evaluations, performance improvement plans, and disciplinary action under the direction and supervision of the Director of Nursing
    22. Demonstrates a service focus in all interactions.
    23. Demonstrates proper etiquette by acknowledging patients/residents, guests, employees etc., promptly and by answering the phone properly (salutation, identify self and department).
    24. Keeps customers informed by explaining procedures and updating them on changes, or delays in procedure.
    25. Offers an explanation of reasons behind policies, procedures, and instructions (when possible).
    26. Follows all facility, departmental and personnel policies and procedures. Complies with the Employee Code of Ethics.
    27. Attends regular staff meetings and department required functions.
    28. Duties as assigned by Director of Nursing or designee

ATTENDANCE AND RELIABILITY

  1. Reports to work on time for assigned shifts.
  2. Maintains a good attendance record consistent with the hospital attendance policy.
