Accounts Receivable Specialist

Responsible for researching and collecting outstanding accounts receivable balances. Oversee all aspects of research, problem solving, tracking and process improvement resulting in increasing collections, reducing accounts receivable days, and reducing bad debt.

  1. Gathers and interprets data from system, understands appropriate course of action to take and initiates time-sensitive and strategic steps resulting in payment.
  2. Utilize claims clearinghouse to review and correct claims and to resubmit electronically when available.
  3. Contacts insurance companies and government entities regarding outstanding balances.
  4. Works to implement process changes as needed to improve the efficiency and results.
  5. Responsible for appropriately prioritizing the focus of accounts receivable resolutions and collections.
  6. Effectively communicate any relevant information to the Billing, Posting and/or Eligibility departments to either seek help in extraordinary issues or to help another team member resolve an outstanding issue.
  7. Complete adjustment forms if adjustments need to be made to an account and attach including all supporting documentation.
  8. Submit appeals to payers as required and follow-through to final resolution.
  9. Responsible for tracking issues and resolutions.
  10. Assist with month end closing procedures within established timeframe.
  11. Report any identified payer trends to Lead and/or Manager.

Job Requirements

Position Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous healthcare accounts receivable, billing cycle and/or revenue cycle work experience.
  • Prefer healthcare background with appeals experience.
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office; especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of office administration procedures with the ability to operate most standard office equipment.
  • Ability to work professionally with sensitive, proprietary data & information while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to interact effectively and professionally with individuals at all levels; both internal and external.
  • Must enjoy working in a team environment
